GS: In terms of content, how does Eye of the North measure up against the previous chapters? Is it about the same size as its predecessors in terms of both the size of the world and the number of quests and adventures?
BM: That is actually a difficult question to answer, as expectations of value are subjective. Added to that, expansions in general vary greatly in terms of both value and quality. With that said, Guild Wars has delivered games above and beyond what people have expected in many ways, and I see Eye of the North continuing that trend. Will it surpass player's expectations in terms of gameplay and visual aesthetic? Absolutely! It is by far the most gorgeous thing we have done to date. Will it have engaging content that will keep players entertained for countless hours? Absolutely

Dev Update - Soul Reaping and Mesmer Issues
Gaile popped by the forums to post the latest dev update, Soul Reaping and Mesmer Issues.
In this Dev Update, you can read details about changes to two professions: Necromancers and Mesmers. In the first case, changes to the Necromancer attribute Soul Reaping have raised a few specific player concerns, and the dev team would like to share some information on that subject. In the second case, you'll find preliminary details about how the designers are looking at the Mesmer, with some early thoughts on potential changes to the profession that will be directed towards Mesmer players in PvE mode. The full lengthy post can be found in this thread for feedback.
Hard Mode this weekend!!
So, logging in to Guild Wars today I saw an announcement that this weekend is "Double Sunspear and Lightbringer Points" and in that announcement it declares that one will be able to obtain double points in BOTH "Hard mode and regular mode"
Time to stop worrying about nerfs that may or may not happen and get excited, people. ;)
This weekend you will receive double Sunspear and Lightbringer points in both Hard mode and regular gameplay. Check in with the appropriate resurrection shrine NPC to obtain the bounty, and double up on the rewards from Noon Pacific on Friday, April 20, through 11:59 PM Pacific on Sunday, April 22.
Let's see what it turns out to be...|||Awesome. Gaile did say that there was a good chance HM would be out this week, looks like it's confirmed. Now where did I put that Axe of Charrslaying...

Hardmode Info is out!
Update: And the patch has hit. Be sure to share your opinion on the changes in one of the many threads currently living in the Common Discussion Forum!
-----------------
Posted up on the Official Site you'll find a page with plenty of information on Hard Mode. Follow the link below to read up on what Anet has to say on it.
Unlock skills without skill points, maybe less then 1k in a few months! Reusable omni-keys! "Kill everything" title! (Easy/Quick)er LB/sunspear titles! With possible new skills! Equal difficulty/reward across the entire world! (unless FoW/UW/RoT are harder then the rest...)
I like hard mode already... And thank god I have good heroes on my major characters...|||I can't wait to try Visunah Square Mission in Hard mode *__*
And a way to enter uw/fow without favor.. =3
vanguisher title sound cool too..|||hmmmm......finally a way to get the perfect build at level 1 XD ^_^
No more wasting time in those beginners areas for those who've already done them.
Hint: Get in the game fast and do hard mode fast. Try and get the new items before prices have settled and you could make a fortune. 0_0|||Yayssss!!!!|||The features are very attractive and I look forward to them.
Vanquisher and Sunspear/LB points would go very hand-in-hand and give you something else to do while gaining your Cartography titles (I see Armaud handing out brochures saying "See the world, meet its inhabitants! Kill 'em all! and get paid for it!" )
And love the alternate option to access FoW/UW, regardless of favor (?).
Tomes are very much welcome, I'm aiming for Skill Hunter on only one character but would like to unlock the same elite for another character who hasn't gotten that far. As I have only so much free time (and gold) so it'll be like hitting lots of birds with one stone.
And yes, perfect builds at level 1 Not quite the across-the-account Skill unlocks I've seen being requested, but at least a good option.
The Tomes and Scrolls won't drop like manna in Hard Mode for sure, but that's added incentive :) wtt Passage Scroll for Elite Tome!
What remains to be seen is how the monsters' AI and skills will be... But we'll all find out in a few hours, won't we? :)|||Quote:

Within a matter of hours, Guild Wars players will be able to participate in a whole new challenge: Guild Wars in Hard mode! We thought you'd enjoy a little preview of this exciting update, so check out the Hard Mode Fact Sheet for a sampling of some of the many cool new elements that this update will add to the game.A thread has also kicked off asking where you will go first in hard mode. Add your thoughts here.|||OMG. GW just got extra exciting. I especially love the new tomes!|||Lets hope it lives up to the hype, and isn't a case of overpopulating an area and sticking crappy conditions on.|||ill be the odd one out and go to the later missions ^^|||Free access to FoW/UW!

Accessing GWOnline (Domain Changes)
As most of you are aware, GWOnline's domain changed from http://www.gwonline.net to http://guildwars.incgamers.com a while ago, as part of the effort to better reflect the fact that IncGamers is a network. The GWOnline.net domain was discontinued earlier today, and thus will provide a redirect page to any using it.
Some links around the site may have been missed for updating when the domain was originally changed, so some may give you the redirect page - please simply correct the URL yourself in your browser, and bring the link to our attention for correction in the Forum Support forum. Thank you for your patience.|||I think this change exemplifies the problem of naming a particular site after the domain it's hosted on.|||as i perfectly understands the situation this site is in, i know you'd want to rename the site to the network.
but i cant help finding the new url alot more annoying to type in a browser :p|||The old name was easier to find, especially for the trading site.
traders.gwonline.net much easier to get to and remember than guildwars.incgamers.com/trading or whatever it is.
Thumbs down on the name change imho. Should at least have an active redirect.|||Quote:

For starters, the Left-hand side Column still has "GWOnline.net" which then takes you to the redirect page. Probably should be changed to point to guildwars.incgamers.com. But what are you going to rename it to? Also, "Contact Us" has an email at gwonline.net - you shouldn't update your web address without updating your email addresses so this should change too.
Cheers,
CM|||All the forum links at the top of the main page (the trading and forum hot-links) are directed to the old addies.|||Got to agree with truemyths, the new domain is just annoying to have to type in or find and would rather that the admins had just kept the old name. I don't understand why only this site on the incgamers network is the only one that is being changed, none of the other sites like World of War or D2 has been changed.
Is there a specific reason for it?
At the moment I'm assuming you're ditching the domain name as the expiration is the start of may, are the other sites going to have their domains ditched too?
Just to point out: On the main page (http://incgamers.com/) GWonlines' link points to the old domain and Hellgates' domain is using the GWonline.net redirect page.|||All sites are changing, 3 sites have already changed, Hellgate, GW and Mythos. The other 2 are much larger sites to deal with and we are waiting for new servers to be installed before we switch.
Why are we doing this? It's simple. To better sell our ad inventory direct we need to have quantifiable figures and the best way to do that is placing everything on the one domain as it's easier for our agencies to sell. Without the ads there would be no site so the harsh reality of economics kicks in.
The site has been on redirects for nearly 2 months, most of you have probably not even noticed. The auto-redirect has now been removed becuase we need to get people to actually start using the new domain and not the old :)
I hope this all makes sense.

thanks a lot...maybe I'll go to guru...
gwonline.net is something a lot of people are used to...and oh that's right...those people are your customers...you don't get money unless we click on ads or sign up for your subscriptions (maybe you get money simply for views and that's the reason for the change...but whatever). Note on Friday's Site Downtime
Today we added 3 new servers to the incGamers server pool as we look to expand things further on all sites. This caused a few issues which should be resolved for the GW community. The other sites I am still working on but wanted to get this up quickly first. Apologies for any inconvenience.|||Quote:

Great for more servers. Extraordinarily bad timing for the GW community.|||Is this why I am still not receiving e-mail notifications of replied posts and subscribed forum notifications?
(I'm sure it's related, I guess I'm asking if that will be fixed or if I need to go re-subscribe...)|||I am not seeming to get subscription notices either, I was wondering what was up.

Update - Thursday April 26, 2007
Todays Patch:
Lockpick Update
* Lockpicks have been updated to grant Lucky and Unlucky title points. Players will now receive 250 points towards their Lucky title if they successfully retain a lockpick after use, and 25 points towards their Unlucky title whenever one breaks.
Miscellaneous
* Made preparations for the Guild Wars Birthday Party weekend event.|||If only the patch was done yesterday, when it was the first time a lockpick didnt' break for me on first use!
Ah well, the update on lockpicks contributing to lucky/unlucky is an improvement at least. Makes buying the lockpicks more cost-efficient.
Thanks for the posting the update!|||And who says that ANet doesn't listen to the feedback?|||Glad they updated this to reflect Lucky/Unlucky titles. It was kinda lame to not have anything to contribute to those titles.

GW Second Anniversary Today!
That's right folks, Guild Wars is two years old today and there's a Guild Wars Birthday Party to celebrate!
Guild Wars Players have had a lot to be excited about in recent weeks, aside from the Birthday celebrations. More and more people are joining the Guild Wars family, so much so that in early April, the possible amount of characters in-game was quadrupled.
I'm confused- is this part supposed to be referring to the storage upgrade? If so, the message got kind of muddled.|||I think its talking about possible players not storage.
On April 28, 2005, the Guild Wars franchise was born with the release of the original campaign, Guild Wars Prophecies. In the two years since that date, the games developer, ArenaNet, and publisher, NCsoft, have launched two additional stand-alone games, Guild Wars Factions and Guild Wars Nightfall. In total the Guild Wars series has sold more than 3.5 million copies, making it one of the most successful online role-playing games ever.|||Quote:
Much of the success of Guild Wars can be attributed to the fact it is offered without a subscription fee, but still provides robust content, a compelling story, breathtaking art, exciting game mechanics, and a history of significant game improvements and updates. All those things helped create and foster an extremely devoted and loyal player base.
Guild Wars players, who will be celebrating the franchises two-year anniversary this weekend, have a lot to look forward to. To celebrate the second anniversary of Guild Wars this weekend, players will be treated to a variety of in-game activities including fireworks, games, and special prizes. Not to mention brand new birthday mini-pets for each character when he or she reaches the two-year milestone.
The Guild Wars Birthday Party will take place April 27 to April 29 and will be open to characters from all three campaigns.
In just two years, we've made three games and have reached millions of players around the world, said Mike O'Brien, one of the founders of ArenaNet. We have a lot to celebrate on our second anniversary and we will endeavor to continue to deliver great, free content to our fans into the foreseeable future.
Guild Wars Players have had a lot to be excited about in recent weeks, aside from the Birthday celebrations. More and more people are joining the Guild Wars family, so much so that in early April, the possible amount of characters in-game was quadrupled. Last week, exciting new options for veteran players were introduced in the form of; Guild Wars Hard Mode, which provides players with greater challenges that offer rich and unique rewards.
Looking towards the future, ArenaNet and Ncsoft are gearing up to release their first expansion pack for Guild Wars Guild Wars: Eye of the Northin the third quarter of this year, and it has announced the start of development for Guild Wars 2, which is scheduled for the second half of 2008.

Guild Webring Updated
Now that I am back in action following my relocation, I have been busy with various pieces of site maintenance this evening. The Guild Webring is now live and kicking once again following the recent domain change. If you submitted your guild to the ring and removed the code due to the domain change you can simply re-add your guild to the webring now. If you already had the webring added on your site then you'll notice a change in the graphics which indicates that everything is working as intended. I have also added the following guilds to the webring so check them out!
- Murder of Ravens
- Clan of Elders
- Brotherhood of Kain
- Gnothi Se Afton
- Multiplay UK GW
- Aether Aura [AURA]
- Clan Hall Gaming
- Sword of the Dragonfly
- King Arthur's Knights

NCSoft Q1 2007 Figures
For those of you interested in financial stats, NCSoft issued the Q1 2007 figures this afternoon. I won't bore you with all the details in the press release but here are the more interesting facts.
I thought for sure the L and L2 series of games would slowly start dying off, but they seem to be doing about the same as last time.
Percantages don't really tell the story. I'm wondering about overall cost and money intake.
I wouldn't be surprised if by the time GW:EotN comes out, they start offering package deals.
NCsoft today reported first quarter 2007 sales of US$91.2 million, operating income of US$18.4 million, pre-tax income of US$21.3 million and net income of US$15.2 million all on consolidated basis. Sales posted an increase of 9%. Operating income and pre-tax income both rose 96% respectively and net income surged 107%. Compared to the previous quarter, sales dropped 6%, while operating income and ordinary income rose 11% and 12%. Net income declined 24% on a quarterly comparison.|||Is there somewhere that has a tracking through the various quarters?
By game title, sales of Lineage recorded KRW 30.4 billion, Lineage II US$35.3 million, City of Heroes/City of Villains US$6.5 million and Guild Wars US$12.4 million. The percentage breakdown of sales by game title shows Lineage and Lineage II with 38% and 41%, respectively, followed by Guild Wars with 14% and City of Heroes/City of Villains with 7%.
NCsofts CFO Lee Jae-ho said, Our first quarter sales and operating income rose 9% and 96% respectively. Furthermore, we expect to attain sustainable growth in the second half after releasing a string of new game titles starting with the much anticipated closed beta testing of Richard Garriotts Tabula Rasa on May 2. The games first primary markets are North America and Europe.
In Korea, the company plans to launch full service for Aion within the year after carrying out closed beta testing in the summer. Also NCsoft plans to introduce in May the first phase of the upgraded version of the service platform PlayNC with integrated accounting and payment functions. In North America and Europe, Richard Garriotts Tabula Rasa and the new expansion, Guild Wars: Eye of the North will hit markets in the latter half of the year.

Update - Thursday, May 24, 2007
Automated Tournaments
* Players can now speak with Tolkano [Tournament] to spend their Tournament Reward Points on various armor and weapon skins.
* The Automated Tournament clock now changes appearance when it is time to join the current round.
Item Updates
Armor Insignias and Bonuses
* Players can now obtain armor insignias from all campaigns. Profession-restricted insignias will only drop in campaigns in which characters of that profession can be created.
* Crafted armor in Prophecies and Factions now supports insignias. The insignia bonuses replace the previous inherent armor bonuses and require several additional changes:
o From this point onward, armor pieces newly crafted in these campaigns will not have inherent bonuses. The crafting costs of these armor pieces have been reduced accordingly.
o All existing level 20 armor from these campaigns now have insignias in place of their inherent bonuses. Please note that the bonuses on these armor sets have not been altered. The only change is that these bonuses now come from insignias.
o All existing lower-level armor pieces from these campaigns now support insignias but have had their inherent bonuses removed.
o Numerous armor sets have been renamed to avoid redundancy with insignia names.
* Lower-level collector armor pieces from Prophecies and Factions now support insignias. Level 20 collector armor does not.
Ascended Armor Changes and Additions
* The following changes were made to Ascended armor sets:
o The armor sets crafted in Droknar's Forge are now divided between the two armorers in a more organized fashion.
o Several Ascended armor sets have been renamed to avoid naming conflicts with the corresponding level 20 armor sets.
o A new "Labyrinthine" tattoo set has been added for Monks at Marhan's Grotto.
* In Prophecies, Mesmer, Monk, Necromancer, Ranger, and Warrior headgear may now be crafted with a variety of attribute bonus options.
* Existing Lieutenant's Helms crafted in Prophecies now have a +1 Tactics bonus in addition to a Lieutenant's Insignia.
Miscellaneous Item Changes
* The Icy Dragon Sword is now considered a rare item. This change also means that it is now exempt from loot scaling.
* To help prevent trade scams, "The Heart of Ice" Prophecies quest item no longer shares icon art with sapphires.
Elite Mission Updates
Urgoz's Warren
* Defeating Urgoz now spawns a chest that each player will be able to interact with individually. This chest grants each player either one inscribable rare item or one of Urgoz's unique items, as well as two chunks of amber.
* Players who open this chest while in Hard Mode will receive two item drops and four chunks of amber.
* Urgoz no longer drops his unique items himself.
The Deep
* Defeating Kanaxai now spawns a chest that each player will be able to interact with individually. This chest grants each player either one inscribable rare item or one of Kanaxai's unique items, as well as two chunks of jadeite.
* Players who open this chest while in Hard Mode will receive two item drops and four chunks of jadeite.
* Kanaxai no longer drops his unique items himself.
The Underworld and Fissure of Woe
* Passage scrolls now have a chance of dropping from monsters slain in the Underworld and the Fissure of Woe so that players have a chance to earn free passage back to these areas.
Help Panel
Players can now access a Help panel by pressing F10 on their keyboard or by typing /help. This new panel contains links to the official Guild Wars Wiki, where players can both obtain and contribute information about their current quests, skills, locations, and guilds.
* The /help emote has changed to /helpme. /help is now used to open the Help panel.
* Typing /wiki into the Chat panel opens the front page of the wiki, while typing /wiki followed by a word or phrase searches the entire wiki for that content. (Please note that there is only an English language wiki available at this time.)
Bug Fixes
* Fixed a bug that caused some items to appear temporarily as white boxes in the Inventory panel.
* Fixed a bug in Old Ascalon that prevented some players from vanquishing the map while in Hard Mode.
* Fixed a line-of-sight bug that allowed a variety of exploits in the Dark Chambers Hall of Heroes map.
Miscellaneous
* Made preparations for the GvG Double Reward Weekend event.
* Bow descriptions have been updated to include bow type.
* The Observer mode game list now remembers which categories have been collapsed. The automatic selection feature now only chooses from expanded categories.|||Thanks for the news Zero!
Wow, in-game wiki support? So we can wiki the mission we're on while we're in the mission without having to alt-tab out? Awesome! I'm super pumped about the rest of the changes too. Can't wait to play and test them out.|||Quote:

Well, writing a web browser was easy back in 1995, when HTML was simple. Now just to output a webpage, the wiki software has to go through CSS and DHTML / XHTML hoops to deal with everything from broken Netscape 4 through Firefox and that travesty called IE. Writing something in-game to render the stuff from the wiki without adding loads of exploits to the game would be hard. As in, equal to writing a good portion of guildwars all over again hard. Now, the dev's could have restricted the guildwars.com wiki to markup that would get styled and rendered in-game. But that is just a suggestion.
Quote:

This is somewhat overdue. I've brought a ranger carrying both of Urgoz's bows, with heros that each have Urgoz for themselves, and still been the only person to get bows off of him. In a fair game, everyone who contributes equally gets an equal share. The whole gold sharing system (as certain people will complain about) is superior to the dev's last game (Diablo II) in reducing bad behavior through sharing.
While everyone is supposed to get a equal chance at Urgoz and Kanaxai, people like me feel guilty for getting (quite publicly among the group) the rewards over and over. I'm sure the RNG gods of Guildwars are punishing me elsewhere (30 runs for 1 ecto?) but still... It's a game, not a sport. I'd rather play with a group and have fun than suffer through all of the Deep or Warren and have people flame me for a hour and set me to Ignore because I got lucky and they didn't.|||Amazing...|||Anyone got a pic of F10 Help Panel?|||Very pleased about the old armours insignia change, as that means various armours I bought for appearance's sake that have since proved to have useless stats don't have to be deleted and replaced after all. Those black dyes weren't a waste!
Also thankyou for changing the artwork to help prevent one of the common scams. It's only a minor detail in the scheme of things, but it's the sort of detail that creates a good impression.|||Good update.
Good thing I waited a while to make some piece of armour more effective and so saved a lot of gold.
Will be checking out older (profecies) armours to see how they can be improved.|||Glad to hear that they finally made the armors consistent throughout the game.
Alot of the other stuff hasn't been an issue for me yet, but I'm glad they got it out of the way for when I get to those things.|||Quote:

I crafted my FoW the day before the patch saying "I bet that insignia patch is coming tomorrow" and then it did :p Still Rangers got a set of +energy and +life armours now so its not all bad ^^ I'll load up and take a pic of the help panel btw so gimme a minute to load it up.

o All existing lower-level armor pieces from these campaigns now support insignias but have had their inherent bonuses removed.
o Numerous armor sets have been renamed to avoid redundancy with insignia names.

I tried the wiki in-game right after the patch and it Alt-Tabs you out to a new page loaded at whatever you searched for :p So you still get sent out the progam.|||Quote:

Update 2 - Thursday, June 07, 2007
Bug Fixes
* Fixed a bug that prevented players from entering a Challenge Mission in Hard Mode.
* Removed inaccurate changes to several skill and attribute descriptions.
Miscellaneous
* To prevent exploitation of the Nightfall starter quests "Take the Shortcut", "Rally the Recruits", and "Never Fight Alone", the gold rewards for those quests were reduced to 25, and the reward for the starter quest "Honing your Skills" was increased to 250 gold to compensate.|||Glad that hm is again available in challenge missions, but I'm wondering why they said this was a bug fix... before they said they actually intended hm to be unavailable in challenge missions. This isn't a big deal to me, but can't they merely say what they mean?
Makes me wonder if the other change was actually a "bug fix" as well, makes me wonder if it was actually a leak. If it wasn't for the first line I would have thought that maybe the changes to the skill descriptions was in fact a bug, but not now.
As for the other update, nothing major, but why don't they do stuff like this in Factions as well? If they think 250g for three quests is bad, just take a look at the quests in Factions. Either way, do people just keep creating new characters to take advantage of these "exploits"?
Sorry if I'm not being nice to them, I usually approve of all their decisions, I'm just confused on their wording and their decisions in these last few updates.|||I *suspect* they meant to make the challenge missions themselves only available with one difficulty (or make it clear that this was so, or correct drop rates and exp being increased for HM when difficulty wasn't increased, I never tried a challenge mission in hard mode so I don't know what was the case before), and accidentally made it so you couldn't leave from a challenge mission to an explorable area in hard mode.
As for the skill things, it may well have been a leak. But if so, it was *also* a bug, because the skills were not functioning as per their description. A skill not working as per its description is a bug, and correcting this is a bug fix.
And yea, it sounds like people were taking advantage of these quest rewards to gain gold quickly in some way. The factions quests start off with smaller rewards (meaning it takes longer to get serious rewards, making less money over time from trying to farm it)... the very first quest in Nightfall and two right after it were 250g rewards.|||Well, here is what Andrew Patrick said:
Quote:
The Hard Mode function will be back on for Challenge Missions shortly. It seemed illogical to be using Hard Mode in CMs since it would simply make it more difficult to get on the ladder, but if players are using it to farm, we will put the option back in.
Sorry for the trouble, it will be fixed soon!
I would like to take the time to say that I think it is great that they listen to us and change the game if they realize they made a mistake, I'm not saying this is a bad thing. I merely wonder why they call something they deliberately put into the game a "bug".
They took hm out of the options to go into the challenge mission and out of the options to go into the instances on purpose (they may not have been thinking about what this second part entailed, but they did do it), so it wasn't really a bug imo. Feel free to disagree with me of course, just try and understand what I'm getting at.
As for your other points, I thank you for clearing that up, I'll admit the skill descriptions were a bug, and that those three quests should be changed to keep people from exploiting them... I just wish the later quests in nf gave better rewards :S
Oh well, at least they upped the reward on one quest, lol.|||Yeah, I witnessed the bots in Chahbek Village and was very humorous. Seemed a bot was creating characters on a very specific naming scheme, walking in, accepting reward from first spear jahdugar (sp?) and then leveling to level2, and then disappearing to be recrated later on.
It was obvious because they were all turning level 2 on accepting and each name was VERY VERY similar. I even have screen shots of the levelup readout - i'd share, but cant show names here so rather pointless to share....suffice it to say...it was VERY exploited. I used to contemplate creating character to do those quests make some quick cash but was too much work to be constantly creating and deleting.

Armor Dye Guides Need Contributors
As mentioned in a few previous news posts, a forum member here, Enko, is compiling dye guides for various professions. You can find his completed work here: Mesmer, Necromancer, Elementalist.
He is also requesting contributions of screenshots to complete his guides for the Ranger, Warrior, Dervish, Paragon professions. If you're interested in contributing to our GuildWars community, now's your chance!
Don't forget that the Triple Dye Weekend is almost upon us, so you will have more of a chance to find dyes. All screenshots should be taken from the Dye Preview Window in-game, so no dyes need be actually spent. If you cannot afford dyes of your own, Enko offers to loan you dyes for the purpose of this project.
For more information, click on the links to the specific profession's threads above.

Players can now acquire twenty new PvE-only skills. There are ten Sunspear skills (one for each profession), and ten Kurzick/Luxon skills (one for each profession).
* To acquire a Sunspear skill, talk to a Sunspear Hero skill trainer. Each skill costs 1 Hero skill point. Sunspear skills become more powerful the higher your rank in the Sunspear title track. You must have at least rank 1 in this title track to learn any Sunspear skills.
* Sunspear Hero skill trainers will now convert normal skill points to Hero skill points for a 1 platinum fee.
* To acquire a Kurzick or Luxon skill, talk to a Faction Reward NPC. Each skill costs 3,000 faction points. Kurzick/Luxon skills become more powerful the higher your rank in the corresponding title track. You must have at least rank 1 in the Kurzick/Luxon title track to learn any Kurzick/Luxon skills.
Title Updates

Jeremy Soule Interview
The chaps at Gamespot managed to pin down well known videogame music composer Jeremy Soule for an interview. Jeremy was the genius behind the music in GuildWars in case you were wondering. Here's a snip:
Quote:
Guild Wars: Eye of The North is really my big focus at this time.
This is the first time I've read confirmation that he will do the soundtrack of GWEN as well!|||Quote:
In the interview Jeremy Soule also states:
This is the first time I've read confirmation that he will do the soundtrack of GWEN as well!
Awesome!
I really like his work
GameSpot AU: You've worked on many different types of games. Is there a particular genre you like better than others?
Jeremy Soule: I just like working with interesting people who have new ideas and are ambitious. It doesn't matter what the game is--it could be a sports game, or a role-playing game, or a military simulation, or strategy--you name it. As long as there's a real passion from the people who are making the game.|||In the interview Jeremy Soule also states:

Skill Updates
Assassin
Hmm, I don't really care about rebalancing all that much, but nice to see some changes.
Good work Anet. (good work as in , working and showing it. Hehe.)|||I agree with each one of these. Good job anet! <3 Izzy for nerfing faintheartedness.|||Sure...whatever.
If we keep changing skills every month the game perhaps it should go back to the drawing board. Just leave it alone and focus on GW2.
I read through these changes and after doing so I can't repeat anything from it: it doesn't phase me. I'm sure there's a reason for it all and I am certainly not saying they're bad changes, I'd have to reread it and try to care about it...but that's it, I just don't really care anymore I guess....too many changes...just too many. Enter apathy...

Attention fellow citizens of Cantha,
On behalf of Emperor Kisu, it is my pleasure to announce this year's Dragon Festival, a three-day celebration of games, dance, drink, and revelry, where we commemorate the dawning of the Age of the Dragon and all those who helped to rebuild our great lands after the Jade Wind. This year, our benevolent emperor has decreed that the festival shall henceforth also celebrate our great victory over Abaddon and his demon forces.
Throughout the duration of the festival, citizens of our great empire can convene at Shing Jea Monastery to socialize with others, partake in carnival activities, and amass Victory Tokens to be redeemed for special prizes. Fans of sport can flex their muscles in the Dragon Arena, where battle prowess and longevity are recognized and rewarded.
There will be no shortage of engaging entertainment, so we hope you make the journey to our lush island and join us in revelry.

2007 Mesmer Highland Games
This Saturday hosts a fantastic community event planned by the noble MogRuith. Thats right, the Mesmer Highland Games are back!
For those that attended last year's games, you will recall contests, events, games, various ales, and lots of ale inspired dancing. Here is your chance to take part in one of the few celebrations created by the player's themselves! For those of you who didn't attend last years event or have never heard of it, you'll encounter all of the above and more. There are no requirements or stipulations. Just pop by and have fun with tons of your fellow players!
As you may have guessed the event has a huge Mesmer following, background, and was pretty much created with Mesmers in mind. However, any profession can attend and there were plenty of non-mesmers at the previous Highland Games. So don't let your shiny plate or rugged leather armors keep you from attending.
An overview of the 2007 Mesmer Highland Games:
Make sure to stop by the Mesmer Highland Games thread for all of the details and to check out the various contests, which include contests for best dress, artwork, and a coronation of King and Queen of the Mesmer Highland Games!

The area seems very dark and it don't make it easier to have to fight black creatures.|||Those first two were in a dungeon, so of course it's dark. And that third was pretty bright.

Izzy, Morello, and Sirlin on air: Interview on Critical Hit
As mentioned on David Sirlin's website, a recent audio interview features David Sirlin, Isiah Cartwright, and Ryan Morello discussing game balance. Check it out here:

My Interview on Critical Hit
Check out my interview about game balance on the Critical Hit show, along with Izzy from Guild Wars. Pretty good stuff! Here's the official summary:
"So to give a very brief overview of what I'm talking about here, we're talking podcast. Critical Hit is a panelist show, where we get 2 to 3 professionals from the gaming industry into a Skype conference and essentially let them loose on eachother. The point here is that old-school interviews saturate the media scene, and it's time for something more constructive. We bring developers, marketing specialists, media personalities, and the like together to put the important issues on the table.
Our fourth episode, about game balance, was recorded last night, and hot damn is it epic! We were fortunate enough to be joined by three excellent panelists.
Our first two panelists are somewhat of a 'dynamic duo'. Isaiah "Izzy" Cartwright and Ryan "Morello" Scott are both employees at ArenaNet, working on GuildWars. Izzy is the official skill balancer, among other responsibilities, in charge of making sure that the PvP experience in GuildWars is as enjoyable as possible. Morello, who used to work side-by-side with Izzy on skill balance, is now working on GW PvE, and is a FPS fanboy at heart.
Next, we had David Sirlin. Sirlin is a producer and developer, currently with Backbone Entertainment, who has, frankly, a gross amount of experience in the fighting game scene. He is one of the original founders of the Evolution Fighting Series, author of the book Playing to Win, and is currently working on projects such as Puzzle Fighter HD, and Street Fighter Super Turbo HD. For more information on Sirlin and what he does, check out his website, www.sirlin.net

Do they provide a transcript?
I wouldn't imagine so, it runs for over an hour. I'd strongly recommend people give it a listen, it's always good hearing things direct from the developers, and Morello and Izzy are both great.
Oh and if you listen and enjoy this one, I'd recommend you hunt down the Weapon of Choice interviews with Izzy. Granted they're a bit dated now, but they do give some good insight into how balancing for Guild Wars specifically is done.|||good to see game devs debate

Guild Wars Goes Russian
ArenaNet are expanding their global reach with the announcement of a Russian version of GuildWars.
http://www.ozon.ru/?context=detail&id=3251386
question is: why ? does the russian guild tag worth it ???|||cuz maybe they haven't purchased the game yet? or they were gonna buy a second account anyway?
lots of reasons.
And some russian tags might be as cool as the korean tag [치치치치] or the Black Parades tag. who knows.
either way: Здравствуйте!|||Reviving an old thread, however, does anybody know what the difference between a Russian version and a Russian language from the language menu in an English version of the game? I guess my main question is: are the names of the skills also translated into Russian or they stay in English? Thanks
P.S. If you happen to have a localized version in another language, please let me know, since it might be done in the same way.|||i'l check this out, might get my brother to try the game in russian, since that's what we are :)|||Oh privet :)
Though I still don't know the difference between a fully Russian version and an English one with a Russian language displayed, an English version has been purchased. but still out of curiosity, let me know please, if you remember to check it. Spasibochki :)|||english version with russian set is crap, didn't translate half the stuff, and the stuff that is translated has too many words in it, really, i could translate them and use half the space!
NCsoft Europe and ArenaNet are delighted to announce that following the recent Polish localisation launch, the award winning Guild Wars franchise will now also be available for Russian players in their native language from 19th April 2007.|||Finally. Good news|||Russian GW player can finally buy russian copy
The epic saga of Guild Wars, Guild Wars Factions and Guild Wars Nightfall has proved to be very successful with Russian players, currently available at stores with localised Russian box and instructions. New and existing Russian players will shortly experience an even greater immersion into these epic adventures, as Russian becomes the latest in-game language to be included, continuing Guild Wars expansion into new markets around the world. Unlike other online role-playing games, Guild Wars does not divide users of different languages onto different servers, but instead allows players from around the world to play together.
We are delighted by the overwhelming enthusiasm of Russian players for Guild Wars, said Max Brown, NCsoft Europe Sales and Operations Director. With fully localised versions of all three Guild Wars titles, there will be no obstacles to prevent all Russian players, new and old from fully experiencing the wonders of the Guild Wars campaigns.
Guild Wars exclusive Russian distributor, Buka Entertainment have high hopes that the complete localisation of the Guild Wars campaigns will encourage even more players to experience the world of Guild Wars and that Russian Guilds will take their true place in the PvP hall of fame.
For the first time, Russian players will no longer be restricted by Russian language only servers. Now they will be able to join players from all over the globe, stated Alexander Mikhailov, Buka Entertainment C.E.O. With full localisation and the unique international districts, the language barrier will no longer prohibit a players immersion and well soon see Russian Guilds realising their full potential within the international gaming arena.
