ArenaNet founder Jeff Strain was recently at the GCDC and talked about how film franchises and licenses just don't seem to work for MMO games. He also talks about the success stories such as World of Warcraft but warns developers against copying the methods of the successful game titles such as WoW. Here's a snip:
"The primary factor that determines whether an MMO lives or dies is the active player base," said Strain. "There's a sweet spot, and those that dont reach that threshold tend to die within a short time."
Thanks GamesIndustry.
