[:1]The good man Ravious has just written an article about the revamped GW2 guild system, published over at Kill Ten Rats.
Quote:
Guilds are no longer marriages because many MMO games are simply not played in a monogamous manner. Guild are, and always have been, clubs.
[EDIT]Lol ops, just noticed a typo in the title. Should of course be Unshackling Guilds..|||I'm in two minds of this... First of all, I've no idea how this will work out. Will you have mostly empty guilds because all members are somewhere else? I do like the idea too. If this had been true for GW, my Luxon title would have been a lot easier! But my main problem would be: what will be the purpose of a guild in GW2 if you can belong to multiple ones?|||While I agree that you will have to allow for larger rosters so that people can be off doing other things without leaving an empty guild, I do like the base concept.
I mean, what is the purpose of a new circle of friends if you already have friends? To make more friends of course! AFK no one would ever come up with the idea that you must quit your soccer team if you want to host Friday movie nights. Likewise in GW2 you do not have to leave your social guild (that does no PvP) if you want to join a competitive PvP team. Win-win imo. :D|||I agree that might of been helpful in GW as we often lost, "hard core" players due to our more relaxed attitude. However I do also see that there might be a lot of Guilds that only have a few people in at any one time.
The question remains, what do you do with the Guild ? Only then will we know if this is a good idea or not.|||This is quite interesting. I wonder if we'll have alliances too.
If not, I could see it being (barring a size limit to guilds if there is one) one where, and I'll use the GWO alliance as an example, say the officers of each guild in the alliance also join the rest of the guilds as normal members, to keep that connection that we have currently with alliances.
If we have alliances still, then it won't be that big of a deal.|||For this once, I changed the title for you... But don't do it again!
----------------
Hmm, if you could form alliances, being in multiple guilds can be fun. You can then decide what guild to join, depending on your mood and still be in the same circle.|||Heh thanks, will be extra careful in the future ;)
I really hope there will be alliances from the start in GW2. Would make the entire concept of "social circle guilds" that much more compelling. Being able to have both base guilds, be in each other's guilds, as well as forming "Alliance PvP team" "Alliance Elite PvE" "Alliance RP" etc. groups.
Would be sweet.|||(intentional double post due to new exiting content)
Since this is more of a follow-up/in-depth analysis on the same subject, I stick it here in the same thread in stead of making a new one:
Ravious on KTR about Big Government Guilds in GW2|||Greatest would be if we had several powerhouse guilds where all players are divided among for large-scale warfare and then the smaller ones to chill out in.
So we can all own that Castle at least once in our lives..|||Seems to me that now you don't need several accounts to belong in different Guilds ;)
A Guild isn't something that owns you, it's something that you want to be part of. If a Guild is good at that, then you'll have active members. If not, then at least members can stay part-time for that which you offer that others don't. And that's fine too.
As far as I am concerned, the real issue is what to do when you need more space. You'll end up with some people at the bottom of the activity list, but it won't be clear whether they are inactive, or rather not active in your Guild. The latter could be encouraged to switch to your Guild more often...
