For those of you who were wondering how seriously ArenaNet were taking Guild Wars 2 as an e-sport, heres another hint: E-sports casting legend djWHEAT (of Counter Strike, Quake, and Starcraft 2 fame) will be at the PAX Alienware booth casting some of the Guild Wars 2 PvP action!

Weve talked a lot about the importance of potential e-sports being spectator friendly, and the important role of commentators and casters like djWHEAT, so this is huge news. Having such a big name in e-sports being brought in at the premiere of the format, the very first time the public will see it, is a very promising sign.

Keep checking back here for more details as they are announced. Were still trying to find how if the matches will be streamed live, or recorded for release later.

Remember Weapon of Choice? That was djWHEAT. Well, before Kestrel took it over, anyway. Exciting times.|||E-sports... always get a good laugh out of that one|||Before people start posting, djWHEAT will be casting the fan tournanement at PAX, not the BOON PvP match agaisnt Anet at Gamescom.

Either way, those are great news. I'm still trying to understand how will Anet make "Observer mode" interesting to watch to the public. GW1's Observer Mode wasn't exactly e-sport friendly.|||Quote:

Not sure what this is supposed to mean.

Also, DjWheat is a great guy, ****ing committed and usually puts himself a lot into whatever game he's going to be working with.|||Probably since sports generally produces an image of running and jumping, being outdoors, and promoting a healthy body, whereas E-sports.... well. Kind of like how Nascar is a sport - sit in a car making 4 left turns a lap.|||The reason it's called e-sports is because of their competitive nature that involves championships and prizes.

You know, just like real life sports like soccer?|||I always thought e-sports were people competing in various sporting activities while on the drug ecstasy.|||Funny thing is, most people playing at a high enough level to compete for prizes are almost all very fit. Being in good condition makes a difference in all of the little things that win you the games.

The image of greasy 40 year olds in their parents basements mumbling conspiracy theories is long overdue. I'd call Esports as much of a sport as several different sports featured on TV or in the olympics.|||They're not fit at the level of athletes... They're usually young afaik, and it's easier to stay slim while young. That does not mean that they are fit.

I'd agree though that fitness helps to have a good mental speed.|||You may want to check out, for example korean starcraft pros, or the fact that even much less disciplined people in the west who play at that level usually all do workouts as well. Nothing fantastic, but also far from the misconception that any cripple could do it and they're all incapable of doing anything else.

Tell me, how much exercise is there really in golf? Curling? Similar sports that require finesse, knowledge and practice but are hardly the physical endeavour pf what people regularly associate with the term sports.
