An MMO without monthly fees? Who'd want to play that? Millions of you, apparently. Beautiful worlds and characters plus a novel system of instancing - only towns are truly massively multiplayer - make this a pleasantly different MMO.
Tim says "Every time the devs put out one of their standalone expansions, they raise their own quality bar. It's a credit to their commitment that, even today, they refuse to charge a fee."

I will now PC Gamer to my list of existential hate with Ursan and pop ups|||People have different tastes, I suppose. I for one however, love Guild Wars BECAUSE it's not like WoW or any of the other recent "free-to-play" MMORPGs that have the whole similar gameplay feel :/|||Quote:

I agree, even "if" I had played a free WoW server, I wouldn't have enjoyed my time...
GW keeps me coming back.
I'll admit I did play quite a bit of MapleStory, I made the mistake of making a lot of friends, and founding guilds, gameguard keeping me from playing cured me of that (no hacks, just over zealous hack detection), so I mostly just play Guildwars, which I'm happy I payed for, or other games' private servers.|||Am I the only one that is surprised the Guild Wars scored so low? I would have figured it would be between 5 to 15. Shoot, even xfire puts it in the top ten most played games.|||Quote:

Yeah I was quite surprised, but we still did better than Diablo II|||As a long time PC Gamer reader, I'll explain what goes on to you:
It's their Top 100 games, chosen between them all. If someone feels strongly enough for a certain game, it'll make it into the list. Hence why Hitman Blood Money was #8 (not that it's bad, but Craig Pearson loved the game so much and the others felt it was good).
It's all explained in their latest podcast.
@mysticangelkin, they're doing the Reader's Top 100 also, which is supposed to me a more accurate and scientific measurement. Find it here: http://www.pcgamertop100.com/index.php
*Edit*
You can also read more about it here:

|||For some reason, I reckon Deus Ex will get the number one spot WoW will score high, Morrowwind will beat Oblivion...
GW scored 52? I thought it'd get lower considering the "bad press" at current.
